Imizis.com has been produced as a combination of two hobbies: photography and software development.
The pages were initially launched with imizis.com brand in June 2004. Some of the same wallpapers were earlier available in
www.paavilainen.net. The landmark of 100.000 individual visitors was passed in 2004. Now there are several hundred visitors each day.
The majority of visitors are still Finns (I come from Finland) and Europeans but Canadians are getting more and more active all the time.
The photos are free because they are all owned by Jouni Paavilainen. I have chosen to make wallpapers of my photos and distribute them all over the world.
The banners were added in 2005 as an attempt to get enough money to cover the site hosting expenses because not that many people buy Royalty free photos from the site. So, it seems that a free wallpaper download is the killer application of this site.
It seems evident that the free wallpaper download for Nokia phones will be very successful. Mobile wallpapers cost 1-3 Euros in Europe and there are not that many sites that are able to offer a free download of the photos.
